Frank Borman School

Summary:

Frank Borman School is an elementary school located in Phoenix, Arizona, serving 1,040 students in grades PK-8. The school is part of the Cartwright Elementary District, which is ranked 264 out of 288 districts in the state and has a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Frank Borman School consistently ranks in the bottom 25% of Arizona elementary schools, with proficiency rates in English Language Arts and Mathematics significantly below the state and district averages across all grade levels. For example, in 2023-2024, the school's proficiency rates ranged from 10% to 30% in ELA and 10% to 16% in Math, compared to the state averages of 35% to 46% in ELA and 28% to 43% in Math. The school's performance is particularly low for Hispanic, English Language Learner, and Special Education student subgroups. Additionally, Frank Borman School has experienced relatively high dropout rates, ranging from 1.5% to 6.1% over the past five school years, which are higher than the state and district averages.

Interestingly, the nearby schools within the Cartwright Elementary District, such as Cartwright Virtual Academy, Bret R. Tarver Leadership Academy, and John F. Long, generally perform better academically than Frank Borman School, with higher proficiency rates and better statewide rankings. However, these nearby schools still struggle with low academic performance, high percentages of economically disadvantaged students, and low statewide rankings, indicating systemic challenges within the district.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This year my child really likes school. She had a few incidents and the principals at the school really worked with her. I was very happy. My student also loves a Mrs. Connley. She talks about fun activities she has all the time and how nice she is. This teacher has gone out of her way to help her lots of times. There has been a lot of good changes over the last 3 years. I can tell the principal really cares about the kids at this school. I am glad. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
