Madera Elementary

Summary:

Madera Elementary is a public elementary school in Simi Valley, California, serving 274 students in grades K-6. As part of the Simi Valley Unified School District, Madera Elementary consistently outperforms the district and the state of California in academic assessments, particularly in English Language Arts/Literacy and Mathematics.

Madera Elementary's strong academic performance extends across different student demographics, with its female, Hispanic, and low-socioeconomic status students all ranking in the top quarter of California elementary schools. However, the school has seen a concerning increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 6.4% in 2018-2019 to 22.4% in 2022-2023, which is higher than the district average. Compared to nearby schools, Madera Elementary outperforms most, except for Hollow Hills Elementary, which ranks higher in the state and has stronger test scores across the board.

Despite serving a relatively high percentage of free and reduced-price lunch recipients, Madera Elementary is still able to achieve strong academic performance, particularly for its low-income students. This suggests the school is effectively supporting its economically disadvantaged population. However, the school and district should address the rising chronic absenteeism to ensure Madera Elementary maintains its high level of academic success.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote If I could give it a zero I would have. This is a horrible school. They do not care about bullying and let my child be bullied and they would attack him verbally and physically but when my son fought back HE was the one who got in trouble. My son has autism and the teachers knew when he would break so every single day they would gaslight him then laughed at him when he started to cry and argue. There are so many bullies here and Madera doesn't care they just watch and laugh along. This is a horrible school and I would not recommend that your child should go here unless your child is a little brat who loves to bully other kids then act like a victim. Do not go to this toxic environment. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
