Madison Elementary

Summary:

Madison Elementary is a public K-8 school in Stockton, California, with an enrollment of 659 students. The school is part of the Stockton Unified School District, which has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Madison Elementary is struggling academically, with consistently low performance compared to the district and state averages. The school has seen a significant increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 23.2% in 2018-2019 to 45.9% in 2022-2023. Academically, Madison Elementary ranks in the bottom 5% of California elementary schools, with proficiency rates in English Language Arts and Mathematics that are far below the Stockton Unified and California state averages. The school's performance is particularly concerning for specific student groups, such as African American, Hispanic, English Language Learners, and Low Socioeconomic Status students, who rank in the bottom 10-20% of California elementary schools.

Interestingly, the nearby schools, such as Cleveland Elementary, Kohl Open Elementary, Victory Elementary, Commodore Stockton Skills, Hoover Elementary, and El Dorado Elementary, generally perform better than Madison Elementary across various academic metrics, including proficiency rates and statewide rankings. The high rates of free and reduced-price lunch recipients and chronic absenteeism at Madison Elementary suggest that socioeconomic factors and attendance issues may be contributing to the school's poor academic performance.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote If I had a choice to not put a star I would. The principal at Madison is the worst of them all my child had an issue with other students and I thought the problem was resolved after talking to her but then it continues so I talked to the principal again and she called my child in to her office and tell her she needs to stop getting her parents involved cause it’s causing problems but when the other child is threatening my child In front of her she doesn’t hear it or see it but when my child responded she proceeded to tell my child she is the cause of the problem. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
