Parish Hill High School

Summary:

Parish Hill High School is a public high school located in Chaplin, Connecticut, serving grades 7-12 with a total enrollment of 220 students. The school is part of Regional School District 11, which is ranked 71 out of 158 districts in Connecticut and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Parish Hill High School has consistently ranked in the top half of Connecticut high schools, with a ranking of 49 out of 145 schools in the 2023-2024 school year, earning a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger. The school's performance on standardized tests, such as the SAT, is generally above the state and regional averages, with 65.5% of 11th-grade students proficient or better in SAT/English Language Arts, compared to the state average of 54.8%, and 34.5% proficient or better in SAT/Math, compared to the state average of 29.5%. However, the student population at Parish Hill High School is predominantly White, with only 2.27% African American, 7.73% Hispanic, and 0.91% Asian students, which may limit the school's ability to provide a well-rounded educational experience.

Despite the lack of racial diversity, Parish Hill High School has a significant population of students from low-income families, with 37.73% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch in the 2022-2023 school year. This socioeconomic challenge may require the school to allocate additional resources and support to meet the needs of these students. On a positive note, the school has a relatively low student-teacher ratio of 8.4 students per teacher, which suggests an efficient use of resources and the potential for more individualized attention and support for students. Compared to nearby schools like H. H. Ellis Technical High School and Quinebaug Middle College, Parish Hill High School appears to be a strong academic performer, though it faces some challenges in terms of diversity and socioeconomic factors.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I have two students at Parish Hill Middle/High School and I remain impressed and appreciative of the education and social experience that my students receive. They are consistently engaged with a challenging education. My students are both in honors/advanced classes, are in band and sports and they are driven to keep their honors/high honors each year. I thank the teachers and staff at this school for providing my students this environment. We are very lucky to have this environment available. Students are PHMHS are given the tools and support they need to succeed and excel during their time at the school and in all future endeavors. Let's not forget that Parish Hill has a 100% graduation rate! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
