Hamilton Crossing Elementary School

Summary:

Hamilton Crossing Elementary School is a public elementary school in Cartersville, Georgia, serving 597 students in grades PK-5 as part of the Bartow County School District.

While Hamilton Crossing Elementary has higher per-student spending compared to nearby schools, it has consistently underperformed academically, with proficiency rates in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science falling below the Bartow County and Georgia state averages. The school's statewide ranking has placed it between 679 and 881 out of 1,214 to 1,248 Georgia elementary schools over the past 6 years, earning it a 2-star or 3-star rating from SchoolDigger. Additionally, Hamilton Crossing has a relatively high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 52.24% to 53.94% over the past 3 school years.

Despite its challenges, Hamilton Crossing Elementary is surrounded by several higher-performing elementary schools, such as Pine Log Elementary, Euharlee Elementary, and Mission Road Elementary, which have better academic proficiency rates, higher statewide rankings, and lower free/reduced lunch rates. Identifying and addressing the root causes of Hamilton Crossing's underperformance, while learning from the successes of its neighboring schools, could be crucial steps in improving the educational outcomes for the students at this school.

Open Quote I would just like to say that my daughter loved having Mrs. Bell as her kindergarten teacher and she said she would miss being in her class very much. As a parent I would like to say Mrs. Bell was so easy to talk to and she was so good at helping us with our daughter. She always worked with us to find solutions to issues and we could not have asked for a better kindergarten teacher than her. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
