Summary:

Poole's Mill Elementary is a public elementary school located in Cumming, Georgia, serving grades PK-5 with a total enrollment of 1,090 students. The school is part of the Forsyth County School District, which is ranked 10th out of 203 districts in Georgia and is rated 5 stars out of 5 by SchoolDigger.

Academically, Poole's Mill Elementary has consistently ranked in the top 30% of Georgia elementary schools, though its performance on the Milestones Assessment is mixed compared to the Forsyth County and Georgia averages. While the school's math proficiency rates are close to or above the county and state, its English Language Arts and Science proficiency rates tend to be lower. Interestingly, the nearby schools in the Forsyth County district, such as George W. Whitlow Elementary, Vickery Creek Elementary, and New Hope Elementary, generally outperform Poole's Mill Elementary on the Milestones Assessments.

One potential factor contributing to Poole's Mill Elementary's academic performance is its relatively low percentage of free and reduced-price lunch recipients, ranging from 14.68% to 18.34% over the past three school years, significantly lower than the nearby Cumming Elementary School, which had a 55.21% free and reduced-price lunch rate in 2022-2023. However, Poole's Mill Elementary's higher student-teacher ratio compared to some of the other Forsyth County schools may be an area to explore further in terms of its potential impact on student learning and achievement.

Open Quote This school is amazing! We recently moved from another school within the county and can say that it's the best decision we've ever made. The administration goes way above and beyond ensuring your student is setup for success. They care as much about special needs children as they do the gifted children . We wish our child had this much support all throughout their years at the previous elementary. We have seen more progress in 6 months than at any other time in their schooling. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
