Woodbury Leadership Academy

Summary:

Woodbury Leadership Academy is a public charter elementary school serving grades K-8 in Woodbury, Minnesota, with a diverse student population of over 500 students.

Woodbury Leadership Academy consistently outperforms the state average in both math and reading proficiency, with particularly strong performance in 3rd and 4th grade math and science. The school's Asian and African American students, as well as its English Language Learners, rank among the top schools in the state. However, the school's White and low socioeconomic status (SES) students have lower rankings, indicating an achievement gap that the school may need to address. Compared to nearby public schools in the South Washington County Schools district, Woodbury Leadership Academy's academic performance is generally stronger, though some schools like Royal Oaks Elementary have higher overall proficiency rates in math and reading.

Woodbury Leadership Academy has a relatively low percentage of free and reduced-price lunch recipients, ranging from 10.61% to 12.41% over the past three years, significantly lower than nearby schools like Carver Elementary and Falcon View Connections Elementary, which have rates over 50%. The school has also maintained a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 12 to 13.6 over the past three years, which may contribute to its strong academic performance.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school is GOING TO CLOSE! They are on their 5th Director in 4 years...the Board is self-serving and could care less about the rest of the students/families. They had an awesome Executive Director that turned the school around and let him go - even after parents and staff advocated on his behalf. When a parent and staff member brought up concerns at a board meeting they were verbally reprimanded by the Board Chair Barbie Young and not allowed to speak. If you want a long term home for your child - choose another school! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
