Hudson Memorial School

Summary:

Hudson Memorial School is a public middle school serving grades 6-8 in Hudson, New Hampshire, with a student population of 692 as of the 2022-2023 school year. While the school has a higher percentage of white students compared to the state average, its academic performance, as measured by standardized test scores, is generally below the state averages in mathematics, reading, and science.

Compared to nearby middle schools, such as Windham Middle School and Academy for Science and Design Charter School, Hudson Memorial School performs worse on standardized tests. Additionally, the school's statewide ranking has been declining over the past several years, from 66th out of 131 New Hampshire middle schools in 2017-2018 to 72nd out of 130 in 2023-2024. However, the school's relatively low student-teacher ratio and declining free and reduced-price lunch rates may provide opportunities for improvement.

While Hudson Memorial School ranks relatively well for its Hispanic and multi-racial students, it lags behind in performance for white and special education students. This indicates the school may need to focus on addressing the needs of these underperforming subgroups to raise its overall academic outcomes. Ultimately, the school faces some challenges, but its low student-teacher ratio and declining free and reduced-price lunch rates suggest potential for progress, especially if the school can target the specific needs of its student population.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I came to this school the beginning of the school year and I think it is an amazing school. The administrators are great at there job and yes they take care of issues if you indeed have one. This school is very safe . I went to a Nashua middle school last year and there was alot of violence and knife fights and it was a very unsafe environment but this school is very good at making sure there is no violence going on. It does happen a little bit but everyone involved does get consequences. I think the only problem is some kids are highly rude. And many students could vouch for me on that point. But it happens in all middle schools. If your hesitating on whether or not to send you child here I say yes because its a safe environment and has a great staff member body. Dont listen to all the negative reviews on here because people will NOT take the time to write a good review about schools but they find time to trash this school and that's not right. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
