Freedom Elementary School

My son was treated terribly. We live off base, and he goes to daycare on the base and the students are only bussed to freedom and so a slot was reserved for him there. He is ADHD and has some sensory processing issues but is adaptable. At the end of their first week, all in one day the school did a fire drill, a tornado drill and an intruder drill. My son has issues with loud sounds and had a melt down and has been struggling ever since. I was clear about this from the beginning and handed over OT reports and they were supposedly passed on for an IEP review. He was basically sent home every day for "behaviors". I was told several times that they need to observe him to see what his triggers are so they can offer him the services that he needs, but was also sent home every day. It was very clear from the beginning that he was not wanted there. The fact that we are from "out of district" was pointed out several times. His final day I was called again and he was in the hall in front of the his class room and had been there for nearly an hour. I got there and asked what happened and the same story, nothing set him off, he just walked in and started acting this way for no reason. The counselor event went so far as to point out that she could only help him if he was a military child, I snapped that he was and she straight asked "retiree or active duty?? I can only offer services if his father is active duty", again I snapped back that his father is active duty and that he is entitled to services for military children. At this point I looked around and another counselor, the principal and a few others were standing around with their arms crossed looking down on us. Someone asked if we had a. IEP because if he had one we could probably get him into a private school. I then looked at the pre K counselor and said "where are we with the IEP meeting?? I'm still waiting to hear from you on that." She then uncrossed her arms and started flailing them around and yelling "we have to do 8 weeks of observations". Mind you, they were sending him home every day. I again pointed out he has sensory issues as I have been telling them every day, and that he was terrified of the fire alarm. Some one then said "well that was weeks ago". I then got irate and said "again he has sensory issues, this is anxiety, he is in fight or flight right now!!!" The counselor then said "well I didn't know that". Mind you I have told everyone, everyday from the beginning because I knew my son would need certain services. Instead we were treated poorly because we do not live on the base anymore. I grabbed my son and took him the hell outt of there and do not regret it.
