McNary Heights Elementary School

Summary:

McNary Heights Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Umatilla, Oregon, serving 661 students in grades K-5. The school is part of the Umatilla School District 6R, which is ranked 139 out of 140 districts in the state and has a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger.

McNary Heights Elementary School has consistently ranked in the bottom 20% of Oregon elementary schools over the past decade, with a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger. The school's academic performance is significantly below the state average in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science proficiency across all grade levels. Its performance is particularly poor for Hispanic, White, and Special Education student subgroups, as well as for students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds. Despite higher-than-average per-student spending and a slightly higher student-teacher ratio, the school's academic outcomes remain concerning.

Interestingly, nearby schools such as Stanfield Elementary School and several schools in the Hermiston School District 8 significantly outperform McNary Heights Elementary in academic achievement. This suggests that there may be opportunities for improvement in areas such as curriculum, instructional practices, teacher quality, and targeted interventions for struggling students at McNary Heights Elementary School.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Not a good school. But being the only pubic school what other choice do you have. Lacks safety, proper supervision, structure, cleanliness. They set the children up to fail instead of to succeed. The attitude around teachers is "our hands are tied, there is nothing we can do". I'm embarrassed to admit I went to school there and have to now send my children there. It is really sad to see that your Alma mater went from being an o.k. school to a poor excuse for a school. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
