Alcoa Middle School

Summary:

Alcoa Middle School is a public middle school serving grades 6-8 in Alcoa, Tennessee, part of the highly-ranked Blount County school district. With a diverse student population, the school has consistently performed in the top 25% of Tennessee middle schools over the past decade, maintaining a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Alcoa Middle School's key strengths include its consistently high academic achievement, with proficiency rates exceeding state averages across all subjects and grade levels. The school also performs well across various student subgroups, with top 25% rankings for female, male, African American, Hispanic, and White students. However, the school's performance for special education and low-income students is relatively weaker, ranking in the bottom 50% of schools. Nearby high-performing peers include West Valley Middle School and Montgomery Ridge Intermediate School, while some other nearby schools, such as South Doyle Middle School, lag behind Alcoa Middle School in various metrics.

Alcoa Middle School's consistent improvement, from a ranking of 176th in 2018-2019 to 109th in 2023-2024, suggests the school is continuously working to enhance its performance and provide a high-quality education for its diverse student population. While the school's overall strengths are noteworthy, the relative weakness in supporting special education and low-income students indicates an area for potential improvement to ensure all students are achieving at the same high levels.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Alcoa Middle School rates very highly academically, and my child has benefited from their high educational standards.

Socially, my child has been bullied severely by students, and the school does NOT have an effective anti-bullying program. We have reported bullying multiple times, and were advised to put my child in a self-defense course. I cannot show my name on this review for fear of repercussions on my child from the staff. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
