As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Reagan High School has made great progress over the past few years to better the quality of the education that it provides to students in the Houston Heights neighborhood: attendance rates have increased, incidences of serious misbehavior are down, enrichment programs proliferate, and, at least for a while, test scores were rising. Additionally, the school has many wonderful and dedicated staff members.I have seen many teachers and support staff members in the building working late with students. Unfortunately, it seems that reform in academics has ceased. Among the teachers and administrators that I have personally interacted with, there seem to be two groups. The first group sees Reagan positioned to move to a higher academic level in which all students are viewed as capable of mastering high level academic skills that will position them for success in whatever area they choose for their future. These individuals are focused on attempts to reform deficient systemic issues in the building, such as lack of scope and sequence in skills across subjects and grades. The second group seems to be riding on past performance increases. These individuals seem to lack a conceptual vision of what future systems need to be put into place to help all students in the building succeed. They work, but are not always working with a purpose. They are are very much on the defense, not the offense. If this is to change, Reagan needs a new leadership that is not adrift. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
