Anderson Elementary

Summary:

Anderson Elementary is a public elementary school in Spring, Texas, serving 501 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Spring Independent School District, which is ranked 776 out of 968 districts in Texas and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Anderson Elementary faces significant academic challenges, with consistently low STAAR test scores and school rankings compared to the state and nearby districts. Only 32.95% of 3rd-grade students were proficient or better in STAAR Reading, and just 17.05% were proficient or better in STAAR Mathematics. The school has ranked in the bottom quartile of Texas elementary schools for the past 10 years and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger, indicating it is among the lowest-performing schools in the state. The school's high percentage of economically disadvantaged students, at 81.24%, may be a contributing factor to these challenges.

However, the school's Gifted and Talented program has shown some promising performance, with the school ranking in the top quartile of Texas elementary schools for this student subgroup in recent years. Additionally, some nearby schools, such as Sam Houston State University Charter School, which is outside the Spring ISD, perform significantly better academically, with much higher STAAR proficiency rates and a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger. This suggests that there may be opportunities for improvement at Anderson Elementary with the right resources and strategies.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My son attended Anderson for Kindergarten through 5th grade and my daughter is still a current student. The district has had its challenges with administrative decisions and policies over the last few years but Anderson has remained a great school. The teachers do a great job keeping the parents involved and keeping the students engaged in learning. I am very satisfied with the education my children receive(d) while at Anderson. Close Quote

Open Quote Improper treatment of children who want to learn. Prejudiced type school who is just looking to keep great kids below their level of learning. Bullying is real bad and if your child asks for help the principle and vice principle act like their oblivious to what is going on in their own school lunchroom. Close Quote

Open Quote My oldest child attended from K-5 grade. Best elementry school in Spring. My youngest child with special needs loves the teachers. You can tell that her teachers love what they do. We are planning on moving to a new house soon and worry we will not find another school that treat the children so well. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
