As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I have never been to Windy Gap Elementary or met any of the Administrators or teachers who occupy the building but I do know my Grandson who recently transferred from an outstanding school in Sumter South Carolina to Windy Gap. As a school administrator myself who has been teaching for more than 19 years I know that a child's first few days in a school make all the difference in their educational experience. Before my grandson even enrolled I visited the school website and checked out the test scores and school rankings. The website was a great view into the school and the many activities that students have access. I also looked at the school's test scores which were good but not stellar, however as an educator I know most of those scores are an aggregate of both struggling students as well as the brightest students. What convinced me that this was a definite "5" was how my grandson was received, not as an additional student to be served but as an important part of this school. His teacher Ms. Angel greeted him warmly and made his transition from one school to another, a traumatic event in the life of a 9 year old, a happy and positive experience. I have since received many phone calls about good grades, and a wonderful teacher. While my experience in this school is limited my grandson is happy and thriving... and that is good enough for a loving grandfather. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
