Troy Elementary School

Summary:

Troy Elementary School is a public elementary school serving grades PK-6 in Troy, Alabama, part of the Troy City School District. The school has a diverse student population, with a racial makeup of 29.74% White, 61.3% African American, and smaller percentages of other races.

Troy Elementary has shown mixed academic performance compared to the state and district averages. While the school performs better than the state in some grade levels and subjects, it lags behind in others. The school's performance also varies significantly across different student subgroups, ranking higher for White and multi-racial students but lower for African American students and those from low-income backgrounds. Over the past several years, Troy Elementary's statewide ranking has been declining, suggesting the school is struggling to keep pace with other schools in Alabama. With a high percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, the school faces significant socioeconomic challenges.

When compared to nearby schools like Goshen Elementary, Pike County Elementary, and Banks School, Troy Elementary generally performs at a lower level, both in terms of academic proficiency and statewide rankings. Addressing the school's uneven performance, achievement gaps, and declining ranking should be a priority for the Troy City School District.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote If you are lucky enough to get a good teacher, your child will excel. Both of my sons attended TES, and they both have exceptional SAT scores. By the way, the best teacher isn't always the "popular" teacher that everyone requests. We have had 11 years worth of teachers at TES. Deb Davis is, by far, the best teacher that either of my sons has had. We have never had another teacher who cared more about my sons' success. Many teachers ignore the kids who are advanced or gifted. Mrs. Davis finds ways to keep the gifted children interested and involved as well. However if you don't want your kid to do homework at night, she isn't the teacher for you. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
