College Station Elementary School

Summary:

College Station Elementary School is a small public elementary school serving grades PK-5 in College Station, Arkansas, which is part of the Pulaski County Special School District. The school has faced significant challenges, with declining academic performance and low proficiency rates compared to district and state averages.

College Station Elementary consistently underperforms, with only 20.4% of students proficient or better in English Language Arts and 16.7% in Math, well below the district and state averages. The school has extremely high poverty rates, with 95-99% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. Despite a low student-teacher ratio, the school's small size of just 136 students has not translated into improved outcomes. When compared to nearby schools, such as Meadow Park Elementary in the North Little Rock School District, College Station Elementary lags behind in proficiency rates across all subjects and grade levels.

The school's statewide ranking has steadily declined from a high of 5 stars in 2015-2016 to just 1 star in the most recent 2023-2024 school year, indicating a concerning trend of worsening academic performance. The stark disparities in proficiency rates, particularly in 3rd grade where only 5.9% of students are proficient or better in English Language Arts and Math, suggest that more targeted interventions and resources may be needed to support the students and address the underlying factors contributing to the low academic achievement at College Station Elementary.

Open Quote We were deceived to bring our children over to enroll them in the alpha program. If you still look at thier website they still claim to have a foreign language which they do not have one year later. The principle refused to allow my daughter to go to the daddy daughter dance because she turned her form in a day late although I asked the secretary to send one home. She forgot and was going to email me one which I never received. They messed up on my daughter's grades on her interim report giving her an F instead of an A. On one grade they have her a 100/10,000 instead of a 100/100. They did not have a bus route in place for our children there first week of school. When the bus driver is out, expect the bus driver an hour late, and last the bus driver told my son that WW III was going to happen because Trump was president. Which I had to read in his daily journal that he feared for his life. Ridiculous. Worst school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
