Coleman Elementary School

Summary:

Coleman Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, serving grades 2-5 with a total enrollment of 384 students. The school is part of the Watson Chapel School District, which is ranked 239 out of 252 school districts in Arkansas and has a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Coleman Elementary School consistently ranks in the bottom quartile of Arkansas elementary schools, with academic performance, as measured by proficiency rates in ATLAS and ACT Aspire assessments, significantly below the state averages across all subjects and grade levels. The school has a 100% free/reduced lunch rate, indicating a high-poverty student population, and its per-student spending of $8,553 is slightly below the district average. While the school's student-teacher ratio of 13.6 is slightly higher than the 13.1 ratio at Edgewood Elementary, it is lower than the ratios at some nearby schools in other districts.

When compared to the nearby schools in the White Hall School District, such as Moody Elementary, Gandy Elementary, and Taylor Elementary, Coleman Elementary School's performance is significantly lower across all subject areas and grade levels. The Friendship Aspire Academy schools, which are public charter schools, also outperform Coleman Elementary School in most subject areas and grade levels, despite serving a similar high-poverty student population. While the school's per-student spending and student-teacher ratio are not drastically different from the nearby schools, these factors do not appear to be driving the school's low academic performance.

Open Quote I would give them a zero if possible. My nephew was beaten up by 5 boys and the ones who did it were written up. THAT'S ALL! I couldn't believe it. I would never send a child to a school that would let something like this happen. He has been getting picked on for over a month and they have done nothing! Do NOT send your child there! About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
