Luiseno

Summary:

Luiseno is an elementary school located in Corona, California, serving grades K-8 with a total enrollment of 837 students. It is part of the Lake Elsinore Unified School District, which is ranked 1038 out of 1568 districts in California and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Luiseno consistently outperforms the Lake Elsinore Unified School District and the state of California in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics assessments across all grade levels. In the 2023-2024 school year, Luiseno's ELA proficiency rates ranged from 38.27% to 61.76%, compared to the district's 35.53% to 41% and the state's 42.8% to 47.37%. In Mathematics, Luiseno's proficiency rates ranged from 19.75% to 53.95%, outperforming the district's 18.91% to 38.01% and the state's 31.57% to 45.64%. However, Luiseno's white students and students with disabilities have lower rankings, indicating a need for targeted support and interventions for these subgroups.

Among the nearby schools, Luiseno generally outperforms the other Lake Elsinore Unified School District schools in academic assessments, particularly in ELA and Mathematics. However, schools like Rice Canyon Elementary and Temescal Valley Elementary (in the Corona-Norco Unified District) have significantly higher academic proficiency rates, suggesting that Luiseno could learn from their best practices. Additionally, Luiseno's chronic absenteeism rate, which has fluctuated from 6.0% to 16.3%, is an area that the school could address to improve student outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The K - 5 grades, with a few exceptions, are a wonderful experience. The middle school staff are well intentioned, most are prepared and educated in regards to subject matter being taught and are commendable in their efforts. Unfortunately, the rest of the middle grade teaching staff is unprepared to teach this age set as they are unable to control the "adult sized" children that interrupt class, making it difficult for other students to learn. Children that are disruptive, as well as bullies, are allowed free reign, while the bullied children get to spend their lunch in a classroom in protective custody. Rest assured, the principal will take the side of the staff - right or wrong. As for scores and grades, while there are the teachers that do their best to provide good instruction, sorrily, there are those that frustrate easily, feeling that humiliating a child is an acceptable practice, leaving the child to fail miserably or receive a bloated grade to keep the herd moving through. Either situation do not leave a child in a prime position for success. Close Quote

Open Quote The community is very involved with it's students, many parents help contribute to the school's success by volunteering, and the school just surpassed the 900 mark on AP Testing..it is a really great elementary school! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
