Cinnabar Charter

Summary:

Cinnabar Charter is a public charter elementary school serving grades K-8 in Petaluma, California, with 186 students. The school is part of the Cinnabar Elementary District, which is ranked 1456 out of 1568 districts in the state and has a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Cinnabar Charter has seen a significant increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 4.0% in 2017-2018 to 26.9% in 2021-2022, which is much higher than the nearby Cinnabar Elementary (43.5% in 2022-2023) and the state average. Academically, Cinnabar Charter's performance on Smarter Balanced Assessments is significantly below the state averages across all grade levels and subjects, with only 25% of students proficient or better in English Language Arts/Literacy and 15.52% in Mathematics, compared to the state averages of 47.04% and 35.54%, respectively. The school's performance is particularly low for male students, Hispanic students, and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds.

Cinnabar Charter's academic performance has been declining over the past several years, with the school's statewide ranking dropping from 1329 out of 5,530 in 2012-2013 to 4,070 out of 5,883 in 2021-2022. This is significantly lower than nearby schools, such as Wilson Elementary, Meadow Elementary, and Corona Creek Elementary, which are all in the top 25% of California elementary schools. These challenges, including high rates of chronic absenteeism, low academic performance, and a high percentage of students from low-income backgrounds, suggest that Cinnabar Charter may need to implement significant interventions and improvements to address these issues and provide a high-quality education to its students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My Children were late starting school do to situations beyond our control, so they started at a lower grade for their age group. Cinnabar never hesitated to help get them started and placed them in the appropriate grades that were needed for each of my children. None of the staff or teachers ever looked down at my children or myself and have been very supportive to us and made me feel just as important and appreciated as all the other parents and kids. they have been a real help for us, and I know my children are safe and learning to the best of their abilities, with room to grow at the right pace. I strongly recommend Cinnabar School to EVERYONE I know who have children. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
