Cordelia Hills Elementary

Summary:

Cordelia Hills Elementary is a public elementary school located in Fairfield, California, serving 743 students in grades K-5. The school is part of the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District, which is ranked 996 out of 1,568 districts in the state.

Cordelia Hills Elementary consistently ranks in the top 30% of California elementary schools, with strong academic performance across all grade levels and subject areas. The school's students outperform the district and state averages on Smarter Balanced Assessments, with 56.32% of students proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to 40.36% for the district and 47.04% for the state. However, the school struggles with equity, as its Asian and multi-racial student populations perform in the bottom 20% and 30% of California elementary schools, respectively, while its African American and Hispanic students excel in the top 10% and 20%.

Another concern is the significant increase in chronic absenteeism at Cordelia Hills Elementary, rising from 4.3% in 2017-2018 to 26.2% in 2022-2023, notably higher than the district's rate of 19.44%. The school also serves a relatively lower percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, 24.5% compared to the district's 27.18%, which may indicate a more affluent student population. Addressing these challenges while maintaining the school's academic excellence should be a priority for the school and district leadership.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This is an AMAZING school for all of these reasons, devoted teachers who are well trained and have great control over the class room, various teaching methods, a PTA that is supported by every parent or both parents, a principal that is completely involved in the day to day operations, she really values each and every child's education and meets each one individually where they are to make their learning experience the best possible, keeps the family updated on day to day operation of the school via home phone calls personally, she is ever present in the school and each child knows her personally, she is like the Mother of Cordelia Hills Elementary, she attends every meeting, welcomes every child the first day of school and the families, she is a awesome principal, she instills the love of learning by her own enthusiasm, she knows each and every family and goes above and beyond to make each family feel supported, children who want to learn and who come from families that teach the importance of kindness and how to act in class and with peers, a zero bullying policy, a outstanding commitment from parents to volunteer in every way possible, numerous extra curricular activities after school and during school, field trips, tons of activities that brings the families and children together such as "fitness nite" Trunk or Treat, Holiday Expo, Dine and Donate, arts and craft days, and so many more ......A wonderful school that really cares about your children, and welcomes you with open arms into the best school in the district. I have been in this district with my own children and nieces and nephews over the past 25 years and from my experience with having attended almost every school in the district, I say Cordelia Hills is hands down the VERY BEST. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
