Gardner Bullis Elementary

Summary:

Gardner Bullis Elementary is a highly-ranked public elementary school serving grades K-6 in the affluent community of Los Altos Hills, California. Part of the Los Altos Elementary School District, which is ranked 17th out of 1,568 districts in the state, Gardner Bullis consistently performs among the top elementary schools in California, currently ranked 62nd out of 5,862 schools for the 2023-2024 school year.

The school's academic performance is exceptional, with 87.01% of students proficient or better in English Language Arts/Literacy and 86.45% in Mathematics, far exceeding the state averages of 47.04% and 35.54%, respectively. Gardner Bullis also excels in the performance of various student subgroups, ranking 15th out of 5,636 California elementary schools for male students and 104th out of 1,203 schools for Asian students in English Language Arts/Literacy. Additionally, the school maintains low chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 0.4% to 9.3% in recent years, and serves a relatively affluent student population with only 3.85% to 4.45% of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch.

While Gardner Bullis Elementary stands out, the surrounding Los Altos Elementary School District is home to other high-performing schools, such as Loyola Elementary, Almond Elementary, and Covington Elementary, which also demonstrate strong academic results. However, the data suggests potential equity concerns, as the low percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch and the high performance of specific student subgroups may indicate that the school is not serving all students equally. Further investigation into the school's efforts to address equity and provide support for underserved populations would be valuable.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Our child was a student at GB for 3 wonderful years. The New Principal Oskolkoff and 5 staff that joined with her have caused a remarkable shift in what was previously an academically and emotionally supportive environment.
Our child had an awful fourth year at the school, and was compromised with regard to the existing support once the new principal Oskolkoff arrived. There is a smothering of children in social circumstances, and once we complained our child was subjected to discrimination and harassment that is under investigation. A wonderful school has been turned on its head for worse.
There is a notable change in the participation of parents, a shortage of volunteers and a distinctly different level of turnout for fundraisers. People are leaving the school in droves this year, we will be another family among them. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
