Lake Don Pedro Elementary

Summary:

Lake Don Pedro Elementary is a public elementary school located in La Grange, California, serving grades K-8 with a total enrollment of 181 students. The school is part of the Mariposa County Unified School District, which is ranked 1045 out of 1568 districts in California and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Lake Don Pedro Elementary has seen a significant increase in chronic absenteeism rates, rising from 13.1% in 2018-2019 to 32.5% in 2022-2023, which is notably higher than the state and district averages. Academically, the school consistently underperforms compared to the district and state, with only 27.43% of students proficient or better in English Language Arts/Literacy and 14.29% in Mathematics, far below the district and state averages. The school's performance in Science is also below the district and state levels. Additionally, Lake Don Pedro Elementary has consistently low rankings for various student subgroups, including female students, male students, white students, and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds.

When compared to nearby schools, such as Washington Elementary, Jamestown Elementary, and Greeley Hill Elementary, Lake Don Pedro Elementary generally performs worse academically. The high chronic absenteeism rates and the large percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch at the school suggest that it may be facing challenges related to student engagement, access to resources, and socioeconomic factors that can impact academic achievement.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Renee, I too am dealing with the same problems with lake don Pedro elementary! You said everything I was going to post! The principle does not care about anyone other than his kids and his friends kids! My child has gotten hurt badly at school and no one contacts us until we come to pick her up after school! We complain to the district, the board and still nothing! Come to find out the principle's relatives are on the board too, what are we suppose to do? Some one needs to investigate this school big time! Close Quote

Open Quote Hi my name is Renee. I would like this on the record. I have 1 child that has attended Lake Don Pedro Elementary for the last three years. This school has done nothing for my child. If anything they have detoured her from wanting to learn. I have a bright and intelligent little girl and that school has not tapped into her strengths nor talents she has. The principal Ron is a joke. He does care about the welfare of our children at all. All he cares about is sports and socializing. This is a cliché town and if you are not one of them then your no one. How many times could my child or anyone Else's child for that matter had their picture in the paper for Honor Roll but no it was the cliché moms kids. Their are other students at that school that work hard for there Grades but because their parents nor the child are popular they are over looked. It is not right. Bullying is a HUGE PROBLEM at this school. Students talking about inappropriate things. Kids touching others students. Guess what has been done. NOTHING in my opinion because it's still happening. The victims pay but not the guilty party's like Ron the principal. Ron in my opinion has the saying if no one sees it or speaks up we'll just sweep it under the rug. The worst part in living in a rural area like this is not having a lot of options. Sad part is this school needs help. Federally. They need to come in and clean it up including the family members on the board for the Mariposa County Unified School District. That's why nothing will change and he will always have a way to get out. Worst still there are a few good teachers there but they have no way out either. So our children and the teachers suffer so they can continue to run that school as they choose. A social group. No thank you. My children will go to a school that cares about their welfare as well as their education. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
