Quail Valley Elementary

Summary:

Quail Valley Elementary is a public elementary school in Palmdale, California, serving 503 students in grades K-5. The school is part of the Palmdale Elementary School District, which is ranked 1346 out of 1568 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Quail Valley Elementary consistently ranks in the bottom 10-15% of California elementary schools based on academic performance, with proficiency rates in English Language Arts and Mathematics that are significantly lower than the district and state averages. The school also faces challenges with high chronic absenteeism, rising from 12.6% in 2017-2018 to 25.4% in 2022-2023, and a very high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, with 89.07% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. In comparison, nearby Barrel Springs Elementary and Los Amigos - Dual Immersion schools significantly outperform Quail Valley in academic proficiency, with proficiency rates that are 20-30 percentage points higher in many cases.

Quail Valley Elementary's struggles are particularly evident in its subgroup performance, with African American, English Language Learner, and Special Education students ranking in the bottom 10% or 5% of California elementary schools in ELA and Math. The high rates of poverty and chronic absenteeism at the school suggest that Quail Valley faces significant challenges in providing a quality education to its students, and a focused effort to address these issues and improve instructional quality could be crucial for improving student outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote well i just moved to palmdale i bought a house close to this school because i wanted my kids to walk to and from school. we had to drive in our former schools, wich is why i chosed this area it seem perfect, but when i when to enroll my son to the Palmdale district, i learn that he did not belong to Quail Valley elemenary. I was very upset, becuase our home is just across the street from the school. the school that my son was sent to is almost 2 miles away, Im a single mom and i have to work and i wont be able to take him or pick him up because the school hrs are from 9-1. I will be force to sell my home and move back to the Valley. this is not fair at all.

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
