Mira Vista Elementary

Summary:

Mira Vista Elementary is a public K-8 school in Richmond, California, with a total enrollment of 512 students. The school is part of the West Contra Costa Unified School District, which is ranked 1129 out of 1568 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Mira Vista Elementary consistently outperforms the district and state in academic assessments, with 42.24% of students proficient or better in English Language Arts/Literacy and 31.46% in mathematics, compared to 32.53% and 23.33% for the district, respectively. The school's White students perform relatively well, ranking 1278 out of 2647 California elementary schools, while Hispanic students and English Language Learners lag behind. However, the school has seen a significant increase in chronic absenteeism, from 11.8% in 2018-2019 to 34.2% in 2021-2022, which is higher than the district and state averages.

Compared to nearby schools in the district, Mira Vista Elementary generally outperforms them in academic assessments, but Madera Elementary, located just 1.24 miles away, significantly outperforms Mira Vista and the district in both English Language Arts and Mathematics. The fluctuating percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch at Mira Vista suggests that the school's socioeconomic demographics may be changing, which could have implications for the school's resources and support services.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Mira Vista is now a K-8 school. It is not an elementary school any more. Its ranking has moved up 354 slots in 2010 according to your statistics. The PTA, administration, teachers and students are striving to do even better in the years to come. The potential is there for Mira Vista to become the top choice in the district for a wonderfully diverse K-8 experience. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
