Knolls Elementary

Summary:

Knolls Elementary is a public elementary school in Simi Valley, California, serving 224 students in grades K-6 and part of the Simi Valley Unified School District.

Knolls Elementary faces significant challenges, including high and increasing chronic absenteeism rates, consistently underperforming the district and state in academic assessments, particularly in Mathematics, and a high percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch. The school's performance lags behind nearby Mountain View Elementary, Santa Susana Elementary, and White Oak Elementary, as well as schools outside the district like Chatsworth Park Elementary School, Justice Street Academy Charter, and Pomelo Community Charter.

Addressing the challenges at Knolls Elementary will require a comprehensive approach, including targeted interventions, resource allocation, and collaboration with the community to support the academic and social-emotional needs of its students. The school's low performance in key areas suggests the need for more effective instructional strategies and a focus on addressing achievement gaps, particularly for Hispanic students and those from low socioeconomic backgrounds.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Knolls is definitely on an upswing. The teachers and principal are incredible. My son loves this school and is excelling. I believe a big problem is that when you put a lot of the responsibility on the parents to check in on aeres and support their kids where they need it, it doesn’t happen in most instances. I am lucky enough to be a stay at home mom and have the time to devote however, I do believe that as parents it is our responsibility to know what’s going on with our kids and help them when and where they may need it. I cannot express enough how much we love knolls. It’s a special little school. And let me also say, you can’t pay for these class sizes. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
