Milliken Elementary School

Summary:

Milliken Elementary School is a public elementary school serving grades PK-5 in Milliken, Colorado, with a student population of 448 as of the 2022-2023 school year. The school faces significant challenges, with consistently underperforming academic results compared to district and state averages, a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger, and a ranking in the bottom quartile of Colorado elementary schools.

Milliken Elementary has a diverse student population, with a roughly even split between White (48.44%) and Hispanic (48.88%) students. However, the school struggles to support its student subgroups, with its female, male, Hispanic, and White students all ranking in the bottom quartile of Colorado elementary schools in recent years. The school's low-income students also perform poorly, ranking in the bottom third of Colorado elementary schools. This suggests potential equity issues that the Weld County School District No. Re-5J may need to address.

When compared to neighboring schools, such as Elwell Elementary and Pioneer Ridge Elementary, Milliken Elementary lags behind in academic performance and school rankings. The school's performance has also declined over time, with its statewide ranking dropping from 684 out of 710 schools in 2020-2021 to 788 out of 943 schools in 2023-2024. The district may need to implement targeted interventions and support to help improve outcomes for Milliken Elementary.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Will not follow a simple 504 plan. Very overcrowded classrooms with the middle and high school at capacity. Will tell me to keep my son home instead of follow up with why the teacher won’t follow 504. This is not the first year and the first teacher to punish my son with running, sit-ups or pushups for his behavior-when it is them not taking the steps to follow the plan to keep him calm and safe.
Won’t post teacher information on the web site like pictures (so you can identify proper staff that SHOULD be in the school) they do not do background checks annually and some staff have been at the school for more than 20years. Superintendent told me personally “ we have to protect the teachers privacy” Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
