Sea Park Elementary School

Summary:

Sea Park Elementary School is a public elementary school in Satellite Beach, Florida, serving 335 students in grades PK-6 and part of the Brevard County School District, which is ranked 22 out of 68 districts in the state.

Sea Park Elementary consistently outperforms the Longleaf Elementary and Surfside Elementary schools in the area, with 65-78% of students proficient or better in English Language Arts and 64-81% proficient or better in Math, compared to the Brevard County average of 57-67% and the Florida state average of 53-60%. The school's 5th-grade science proficiency rate of 73% is also significantly higher than the Brevard County (58%) and Florida (53%) averages. Sea Park Elementary has maintained a strong statewide ranking, consistently placing in the top 20% of Florida elementary schools.

While Sea Park Elementary has a predominantly white student population, the school has seen a gradual increase in racial diversity over the past few years. In contrast, schools with higher percentages of economically disadvantaged students, such as Croton Elementary, Harbor City Elementary, and Dr. W.J. Creel Elementary, tend to have lower academic achievement and higher chronic absenteeism rates. Sea Park Elementary's focus on academic excellence, resource allocation, and efforts to address diversity and equity could provide valuable insights for other schools in the region.

Open Quote Our experience was great until this year. Our son entered 3rd grade and had a teacher that really pushed us to test our son for ADD. Not because he was badly behaved or was failing, but because he had a hard time focusing at times which could get in his way someday. Not enough reason for me to test and/or label him. In addition, the teacher made it her mission to find ways to convince me to take her advice by disecting my child's every move. Also, she was highly belittling to me as well! And negative. For example, I had received my sons mid term report which was ok, but one area he needed to work on. The teacher told me that there would be more tests and I responded by saying,"Great, he has some time to bump that grade up," she responded by saying,"Or time to go down." These are the types of comments I deal with every time I have a conversation with her. We are moving, thank goodness, because I was seriously considering homeschooling. However, Seapark as a whole is fantastic and my experience with this one teacher and her intern who is highly negative as well is not all encompassing regarding how I feel about the whole school. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
