Additionally, the school's test scores are generally lower than the Collier County and Florida state averages across various subjects and grade levels, with proficiency rates in English Language Arts and Math significantly below the district and state averages, particularly in 4th and 5th grades. The school's statewide ranking has declined over the years, from being ranked 939 out of 2,247 Florida elementary schools in 2020-2021 to 1,761 out of 2,256 in 2023-2024, placing it in the bottom 20% of elementary schools in the state with a 1-star rating.

Compared to the nearby public schools, such as Herbert Cambridge Elementary School, Osceola Elementary School, and Golden Terrace Elementary School, Gulf Coast Charter Academy South is underperforming academically, with lower test scores, higher chronic absenteeism rates, and a lower statewide ranking, despite serving a similar student population in terms of socioeconomic status and racial demographics. The school's unique challenges, including lower spending per student and a higher student-teacher ratio, may be contributing factors to its academic performance, and addressing these areas could be crucial in improving student outcomes.

Open Quote Wonderful school! My daughter is in Kindergarten and is going into to first grade next year. She has been taught what she needs to know to be successful in the coming year. She has talked about her hands on Stem activities they do in class, lessons she has learned and how loving all the staff have been. She especially feels loved and heard by the principal and the dean at GCCAS. Teachers communicated all year with me regarding her academic and social skills. I couldn't be happier with Gulf Coast Charter Academy! We will be staying for first grade and beyond. I highly recommend this school where parent concerns are heard! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
