North Marion High School

Summary:

North Marion High School is a public high school located in Citra, Florida, serving grades 9-12 with a total enrollment of 1,303 students. The school is part of the Marion School District, which is ranked 61 out of 68 districts in Florida and is rated 1 star out of 5 by SchoolDigger.

North Marion High School consistently underperforms compared to the Marion district and the state of Florida in standardized test scores. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, only 20% of students were proficient or better in Algebra 1 EOC, compared to 45% in the Marion district and 55% statewide. The school also has lower four-year graduation rates (74.9%) compared to the state average (84.8%), and significantly higher chronic absenteeism rates (34.1%) compared to the Marion district average (22.5%) and the state average (19.3%). These academic and attendance challenges are compounded by the fact that North Marion High School has a higher percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch (66.08%) compared to nearby schools and the state average.

When compared to nearby high-performing schools like Forest High School and Vanguard High School, North Marion High School consistently underperforms in academic metrics, graduation rates, and attendance. The data also reveals the struggles of alternative schools in the Marion district, such as Silver River Mentoring and Instruction and Marion Technical Institute, which have extremely low proficiency rates, high chronic absenteeism, and very low graduation rates. These findings suggest the need for targeted interventions and additional resources to address the disparities and support student success at North Marion High School and across the district.

Open Quote This school passes students who don't pass, cheats on its numbers and data whenever possible and wants to claim itself as a "B" rated school. The faculty admin politics are horrible and the effects of the severe nepotism and abuse there trickles down to the kids. There is a bullying and violence epidemic and drugs are widespread on campus. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
