This strong academic performance extends across all grade levels, with Callahan Middle School significantly outpacing nearby schools in the Duval District, such as Springfield Middle School. Callahan Middle School's student population is predominantly white, at 89.93%, which contrasts with the more diverse demographics of nearby schools in the Duval District. This unique racial composition may contribute to the school's academic success, as research suggests that diverse learning environments can have positive impacts on student outcomes. Additionally, Callahan Middle School's higher spending per student, which has increased from $7,275 to $8,697 in recent years, may also play a role in its strong performance.

Open Quote As a parent and former student I have great concern for my child's welfare at this school. My child suffers bullying everyday and nothing is done about it. When my child stands up for herself she gets in trouble by the administrator. It is a very messed up system with no accountability for racism and bullying. I would not recommend this school to anyone. So disappointed because I had a positive experience here. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
