Lakeview Elementary School

Summary:

Lakeview Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Saint Cloud, Florida, serving grades PK-5 with a student population of 770. The school is part of the Osceola School District, which is ranked 58 out of 68 districts in Florida and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Lakeview Elementary has a higher percentage of Hispanic students (54.68%) compared to the state average (23.6%) and the nearby schools, which is a key differentiating factor. The school's test scores are generally higher than the Osceola district average but lower than the state average across most grade levels and subjects. For example, in 2023-2024, Lakeview's 5th-grade science proficiency was 53%, compared to the district's 42% and the state's 53%. Lakeview has also seen a significant increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 14.5% in 2019-2020 to 27.9% in 2022-2023, which is notably higher than the state average of 15.7%. The school has a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 51.08% to 55.97% over the past three years, higher than the state average of 57.8%. However, Lakeview's spending per student has increased from $9,537 in 2019-2020 to $11,302 in 2022-2023, which is higher than the state average of $8,920.

Lakeview's performance is generally on par with or slightly better than the nearby public schools, such as Hickory Tree Elementary and Michigan Avenue Elementary, in terms of test scores and school rankings. However, it lags behind the nearby charter schools, such as Mater Academy at St. Cloud and Bridgeprep Academy of St. Cloud, which have higher test scores and better school rankings. Lakeview's higher spending per student compared to the state average and nearby schools suggests that the school is investing more resources in its students, but this has not yet translated into significantly better academic outcomes.

Open Quote Principal allows teachers and students to bully kids because he is too worried that by handling the matter appropriately that his school will get a bad record. He will not listen to your concerns written or verbal, he will talk over you and act like you are wasting his time. According the the school board policy on bullying, the principal is suppose to lead the investigation when bullying is brought to his attention, instead he does everything in his power to brush it under the mat. Also, looking at these ratings sites when parents have tried to voice the same thing he goes behind them and praises himself talking about how involved and fabulous he is. This guy is a piece of work! He need to be replaced by the vice principal, she is actually cares about the kids- she won't allow the kids to suffer to keep a good reputation! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
