Village Academy On The Art & Sara Jo Kobacker Campus

Summary:

Village Academy On The Art & Sara Jo Kobacker Campus is an alternative public school in Delray Beach, Florida, serving 632 students in grades PK-12 as part of the Palm Beach School District, which is ranked 41 out of 68 districts in the state.

Despite facing significant challenges, Village Academy has maintained an exceptional four-year graduation rate of 100% in recent years, which is notably higher than the district and state averages. However, the school's student population is predominantly African American (around 90%), in contrast to the more diverse racial compositions of surrounding schools. Additionally, Village Academy experiences a relatively high chronic absenteeism rate, ranging from 9.6% to 22.1%, which is higher than the state and district averages. The school's test scores are also mixed, with strengths in some subject areas like Geometry, Biology 1, and US History, but significant weaknesses in others, such as Algebra 1, Civics, and 5th/8th grade Science, compared to the surrounding region. The school serves a population with significant economic challenges, with around 88-98% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch.

While Village Academy faces unique obstacles, its exceptional graduation rates suggest the school is effectively supporting students in completing their high school education. However, addressing the root causes of chronic absenteeism and implementing targeted, data-driven strategies to improve academic performance in weaker subject areas could be crucial for further enhancing the educational outcomes of its students. Ensuring equitable access to resources and support services may also be a key focus for the school, given the high percentage of economically disadvantaged students it serves.

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
