Oak Grove Middle School

Summary:

Oak Grove Middle School is a public middle school located in Clearwater, Florida, serving grades 6-8 with a total enrollment of 843 students. The school is part of the Pinellas District, which is ranked 23 out of 68 districts in Florida and is rated 3 stars out of 5 by SchoolDigger.

Oak Grove Middle School faces several challenges, including declining school rankings, higher chronic absenteeism, and lower test scores compared to the district and state averages. The school has a more diverse student population, with a higher percentage of Hispanic (43.53%) and African American (14.83%) students, and a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 58.55% to 66.12% over the past three school years. These factors may be contributing to the school's lower academic performance, as evidenced by its proficiency rates in FAST English Language Arts and Math being below the Pinellas and Florida averages.

When compared to nearby middle schools, such as Pinellas Park Middle School, Seminole Middle School, and Palm Harbor Middle School, Oak Grove Middle School generally underperforms in terms of test scores, school ranking, and chronic absenteeism. However, the school's diverse student population and higher percentage of economically disadvantaged students set it apart from its neighbors.

Open Quote Do Not be fooled, This school is awful. The staff are incredibly rude, they could not care less about the students or their academic success. one star is generous. its a cesspool of disrespectful children and teachers battling it out with one another. these teachers/principles will lie to your face without batting an eye. Your Child will almost certainly fail at this school or barely pass the year, academically and socially Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
