Oak Hammock K-8 School

Summary:

Oak Hammock K-8 School is a public elementary and middle school in Port St. Lucie, Florida, serving 1,633 students in grades PK-8. The school is part of the St. Lucie School District, which is ranked 47th out of 68 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating.

Oak Hammock stands out for its strong performance on End-of-Course (EOC) exams, with significantly higher proficiency rates than the district and state in Algebra 1, Geometry, and Civics. However, the school faces challenges in English Language Arts (ELA) and upper-grade math, where proficiency rates are lower than the district and state averages. Chronic absenteeism has also been a concern, rising from 13.4% in 2019-2020 to 31.7% in 2022-2023, higher than the district average.

Comparing Oak Hammock to nearby schools, such as Northport K-8 School and Manatee Academy K-8, reveals similar demographic profiles and test score performance. However, some schools, like Floresta Elementary and Bayshore Elementary, have lower chronic absenteeism rates but generally lower test scores. The charter school, Renaissance Charter School of St. Lucie, stands out with the highest test scores among the nearby schools but also the lowest chronic absenteeism rate.

Open Quote This school is a JOKE! The teachers are there to collect a paycheck and see fit to tease children, like mine, with learning disabilities. If you think the Dean might help, hope you do not have failed football coach Dean (initials CH). He is RUDE and CONDESCENDING. He has no business in the education system, though most at the school don't. As a parent I could not be more disappointed with a school. I am only rating one star as a negative rating is not possible. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
