Timbercrest Elementary School

Summary:

Timbercrest Elementary School is a public elementary school in Deltona, Florida, serving 797 students from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade. As part of the Volusia school district, which is ranked 36 out of 68 districts in Florida, Timbercrest consistently outperforms the district and state in academic measures, with 66% of 3rd graders proficient or better in English Language Arts and Math, compared to 54% and 56% for the Volusia district, respectively.

However, Timbercrest has seen a significant increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 5.7% in 2019-2020 to 19.8% in 2022-2023, which is higher than the state average. The school also has a relatively high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 53.37% to 68.7% over the past few years, indicating a higher proportion of students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Despite these challenges, Timbercrest has seen a steady increase in per-student spending, rising from $7,628 in 2019-2020 to $9,643 in 2022-2023, which may contribute to the school's academic performance.

Timbercrest Elementary has a diverse student population, with a racial makeup that includes 42.91% White, 10.16% African American, 38.9% Hispanic, and smaller percentages of other races. While Timbercrest generally outperforms nearby schools like Manatee Cove Elementary School and Orange City Elementary School, some nearby schools, such as Ivy Hawn Charter School Of The Arts, have even higher academic achievement, suggesting that Timbercrest could learn from their best practices.

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
