Summary:

Franklin Forest Elementary is a public elementary school located in Lagrange, Georgia, serving grades PK-5 with a total enrollment of 731 students. The school is part of the Troup County School District, which is ranked 103 out of 203 districts in Georgia and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Franklin Forest Elementary has consistently been ranked in the bottom half of Georgia elementary schools, with a ranking between 535 and 872 over the past 10 years. The school has maintained a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger for most of this period, with a brief period of a 3-star rating in 2014-2015 and 2015-2016. The school's test scores consistently underperform compared to the Troup County and Georgia state averages, with only 23.1% of 3rd graders, 27.5% of 4th graders, and 38.6% of 5th graders proficient or better in English Language Arts, and even lower performance in Mathematics. Additionally, the school has an extremely high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 93.98% to 94.86% over the past three school years.

When comparing Franklin Forest Elementary to other nearby schools in the Troup County district, such as Long Cane Elementary and Rosemont Elementary, it becomes clear that the school is underperforming compared to its peers. These nearby schools consistently outperform Franklin Forest Elementary in test scores and have lower percentages of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. While the school has a relatively high per-student spending and a low student-teacher ratio, these investments do not appear to be translating into improved academic outcomes, suggesting that other factors, such as teacher quality, curriculum, or school leadership, may be contributing to the school's underperformance.

Open Quote Send your child to this school if you would like them to be terrorized and bullied by the students and teachers. Since the entirety of my oldest son attendance here he has been bullied and the teachers ignore. It has gotten so bad that I have to started teaching him self defense. The problem with that is my son has a kind soul and will not hit anyone even if they hit him. Just to name 2 incidents a student hit my son in the face because he wanted to break in line another incident occurred in his homeroom where the same student stabbed him in the hand with a pencil. The teacher didn't even notify me, I had to hear this from my son. When I asked the teacher why the lack of communication involving bullying and my son getting injured she said it slipped her mind. WOW! So send my son home with a hole in his hand. I can count on 1 hand how many teachers are actually great. I can name them too. I am so exciting the school year is over because my children will not be returning to this school. My children and my experience at this school has highly made me consider home schooling. By far the worst school in Troup County. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
