Summary:

Lyerly Elementary School is a public elementary school serving grades PK-8 in Lyerly, Georgia, with 334 students. The school is part of the Chattooga County School District, which is ranked 151 out of 203 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Lyerly Elementary School faces several key challenges. Its test scores are generally lower than the state averages across all grade levels and subjects, with only 16.1% of 3rd graders proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to the state average of 38.4%, and only 19.4% of 3rd graders proficient or better in math, compared to the state average of 45.4%. The school's statewide ranking has declined over the years, from 427 out of 1,234 Georgia elementary schools in 2018-2019 to 910 out of 1,248 in 2023-2024, with a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger. Additionally, Lyerly Elementary has a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 67.4% to 75.75% over the past few years, significantly higher than the state average.

When compared to nearby schools, such as Leroy Massey Elementary and Menlo Elementary in the same district, as well as Armuchee Elementary in the neighboring Floyd County district, Lyerly Elementary generally performs worse on test scores and has a lower school ranking. This trend of declining performance over time is concerning and suggests that the school may be struggling to effectively serve its student population, which faces significant economic disadvantages.

Open Quote My daughter has gone to Lyerly since Pre-K and I absolutely love everything about this school! They recently got a new Principal, plus they now finally have an art class and agricultural science program. No complaints. My daughter is now a happy 8th grader that is in the gifted program. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
