Liberty Elementary School

Summary:

Liberty Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Canton, Georgia, serving grades PK-5 with a total enrollment of 986 students. The school is part of the Cherokee County School District, which is ranked 28th out of 203 districts in Georgia and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger. Liberty Elementary has consistently maintained a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger over the past several years, indicating strong academic performance.

Liberty Elementary consistently outperforms the state average in Milestones Assessment scores across all grade levels and subject areas. In 2023-2024, Liberty Elementary's 5th-grade students achieved 65.8% proficiency in ELA, 67.9% in Math, and 58.7% in Science, significantly higher than the state averages of 48.2%, 41%, and 41.7%, respectively. The school's 3rd and 4th-grade students also demonstrate strong performance, with ELA and Math proficiency rates often exceeding the county and state levels. Additionally, Liberty Elementary has a relatively low percentage of free and reduced lunch recipients, ranging from 26.64% to 31.85% over the past few years, lower than nearby schools like Woodstock Elementary (36.33%) and Johnston Elementary (36.23%).

While Liberty Elementary outperforms the state averages, it is not the highest-performing school in the immediate vicinity. For example, Bascomb Elementary has a higher statewide ranking and outperforms Liberty Elementary in several Milestones Assessment areas, particularly in 3rd and 4th-grade ELA and Math. This suggests that Liberty Elementary may have room for improvement to reach the level of excellence demonstrated by some of its neighboring schools. However, Liberty Elementary's consistent academic excellence and commitment to student success make it a valuable asset to the Cherokee County School District.

Open Quote This school is awful. My Son attended this school for 1st and second grade both teachers lacked patience just like the staff in the front office all the way up to the principle. Its a joke. We moved away from this school as fast as we could. If you can send you child to Sixes its a much better school and right around the corner. My son is going into third grade in a new school ( Cobb) starting on Thursday the 5th and we STILL HAVE not received our records that we requested over a month ago. A visit to the office today just confirmed the lazy and rude Staff at this school. I mean when you walk in and the lazy records worker is over 50 easily and wearing a birthday crown? I know its an elementary school but that is for the kids not the staff. Her excuse, I just haven't had the time. But you had time to hairspray that crown into your hair didn't you. Pathetic school because of the staff Good school ranking because the area it is in has great parents that do the staffs job in teaching the children. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
