Dodgen Middle School

Summary:

Dodgen Middle School is a public middle school located in Marietta, Georgia, serving grades 6-8 with a total enrollment of 1,222 students. The school is part of the Cobb County School District, which is ranked 52 out of 203 districts in Georgia and is rated 4 stars out of 5 by SchoolDigger.

Dodgen Middle School has consistently been one of the top-performing middle schools in Georgia, ranking within the top 5-13 schools in the state for the past several years. The school has maintained a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger, indicating exceptional academic performance. Dodgen's proficiency rates significantly outperform the Cobb County and Georgia state averages in the Milestones Assessment across all grade levels and subject areas, with 94.9% proficient or better in Algebra I, 84.4% in 6th grade ELA, 73.8% in 7th grade ELA, and 81.4% in 8th grade Math. The school's performance in Science and Social Studies is also noteworthy, with 50% and 74% proficiency rates, respectively, in 8th grade, compared to the county and state averages.

Dodgen Middle School's consistent high performance and exceptional academic results set it apart from many of the nearby schools, such as McCleskey Middle School and Daniell Middle School, which have significantly higher percentages of free and reduced-price lunch recipients. This suggests that Dodgen serves a more affluent student population, which may contribute to its academic success. However, the school's per-student spending and student-teacher ratios are relatively similar to those of the nearby schools, indicating that its success may be more closely tied to factors beyond just funding and resources, such as the quality of instruction, school leadership, and the overall educational environment.

Open Quote Not a good school at all. It used to be, but the best teachers have all left, there is new management, and as a parent I don't feel comfortable there. My child started out happily enough but soon became reluctant to go, and eventually terrified. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
