Sprayberry High School

Summary:

Sprayberry High School is a public high school located in Marietta, Georgia, serving grades 9-12 with a total enrollment of 1,831 students. It is part of the Cobb County School District, which is ranked 52 out of 203 districts in Georgia and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Sprayberry High School has consistently maintained a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger over the past decade, ranking between the 64th and 106th best high schools in the state during this period. The school has strong graduation rates, ranging from 86.2% to 89.5% over the past 5 years, which are higher than the state average and on par with the Cobb County district average. Sprayberry's test scores on the Georgia Milestones Assessments are generally higher than the state averages, and often on par with or slightly below the Cobb County district averages.

However, Sprayberry High School has a relatively high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 30.73% to 35.99% over the past 3 years, which is higher than the rates at some of the nearby high-performing schools like Walton High School (3.78%) and Lassiter High School (9.11%). This suggests that Sprayberry may have a more economically disadvantaged student population, which could be a contributing factor to the school's slightly lower test scores and graduation rates compared to the top-performing schools in the area.

Open Quote Great school, great diversity! I have sent two kids through there and it is the best school in the area. It allowed my kid to excel and in both academics and athletics when it might have been tougher at some of the schools closer by! Housing is also more affordable in the Sprayberry area compared to East Cobb. Close Quote

Open Quote This is my son's freshman year at SHS and we love it. I have a Master's Degree, my husband has a bachelor's so education is important to us. So far we have been very pleased and he loves high school. The block schedule (4 classes a semester) has been terrific for him, easier to manage than 7 classes. The upside of the block schedule is the kids get to explore different academic and elective classes and graduate with 4 classes beyond what is required. We have been very impressed with his teachers and the involvement of the principal. We have become active in the PTSA. We've looking forward to the next three years and would encourage others in East Cobb to join us at SHS. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
