Open Quote My eldest went to Riverside from 1st-3rd, and she LOVED her teachers and going to school. The bus drivers were wonderful too. My youngest was there for kindergarten in their "special needs" program with Mrs. Phillips, and he grew leaps and bounds while under their care. I can't say enough good things about the people that taught and cared for my children throughout the school year. I will be forever grateful. They have officially set the bar for the level of care that we look for in future school districts. Close Quote

Open Quote The teachers at Riverside Elementary are extremely caring and helpful. This is a warm environment however when you first enter the school you may not feel that at first. The office staff at first seem to be very uptight. This is NOT true. They are extremely protective of "their" children and until they get to know you they are all business. Once you become family (part of the Riverside community) you can walk through the doors and the secretaries will ask if you want your child. They know you by facial recognition and your child's name. Not bad for a school of 700 plus students. It is still a small community school! My child LOVES reading and the Media Specialist ALWAYS welcomes us to come in help so parents can help in the Media Center and then eat with our kids also. This school really tries to involve parents. The teachers also allows parents to help with projects in the parent work room. It a great school. If you are looking to move into Columbia County you should check out Riverside Elementary School as it has great teachers, great kids, great parents and wonderful principals! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
