Grovetown High School is a public high school serving grades 9-12 in Grovetown, Georgia, with a total enrollment of 2,236 students. The school is part of the Columbia County School District, which is ranked 16th out of 203 districts in Georgia and has a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Grovetown High School has consistently maintained high four-year graduation rates, ranging from 83.9% to 91.9% over the past five years, which is higher than the state average. However, the school's performance on the Georgia Milestones Assessments is mixed compared to the state and county averages, with the school performing better than the state average in some subjects like Biology and United States History, but lagging behind the county average in most subjects, particularly in Algebra I. The school also has a relatively high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 28.46% to 34.44% over the past three years, which is higher than the rates at the higher-performing nearby schools like Greenbrier High School and Lakeside High School.

Grovetown High School's spending per student has ranged from $6,689 to $7,179 over the past three years, which is lower than the spending at some of the nearby higher-performing schools. Additionally, the school's statewide ranking has declined over the past several years, from a high of 59th out of 425 Georgia high schools in 2013-2014 to 165th out of 458 in 2023-2024, suggesting that the school may be struggling to keep up with the performance of other high schools in the state. Despite these challenges, Grovetown High School's performance in certain subjects suggests that it is still providing a solid education to its students.

Open Quote Grovetown High is the most diverse school on Columbia county. The staff is awesome and they really care for the students. Military friendly and the kids are just better behaved than at the other schools we've observed. Our son is in sports and we stay busy in the community, Grovetown is where it's at! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
