Open Quote They kick out kids who do not perform at a high level.
Great teachers at this school, but they do not deserve this high of a rating when results are skewed this much.
The school is racially diverse, but is not diverse in terms of degree of poverty. Close Quote

Open Quote My children went to BD for the whole cycle K-5. On the plus side, the academic environment is good and somewhat competitive. (Reading Bowl, Math Team, Math and Science Olympiad) . Teachers are in general nice but the principal and the assistant principal exhibit an unhealthy obsession with perfection when it comes to: dressing code, attendance, discipline, parking, etc.
On the down side, the curriculum is a mile long and an inch deep. Too much emphasis on routine problems and not enough on creativity and "in-depth" questions. Coming from an international background, I can see why US is not as good as say China in math and sciences.
Unfortunately this problem becomes more acute in middle school and later in high school so extra work needs to be done here. Overall we are satisfied with the school and if they could do something about creativity/ in-depth study, they could be an excellent school. Close Quote

Open Quote Britt David is an amazing school. My child has had wonderful teachers there. They embrace diversity and help students to learn about the different cultures of the diverse cultural make up of the school. The school has the most up to date technology with smart boards in every classroom. They have multiple computer labs. The students have several different computer classes that they go to each week. They learn core subjects on the computers in addition to typing. The school is also working towards having iPads for every student. They currently have laptops that can be checked out by classrooms for projects. Britt David has so much parent involvement. It has a community feel. The teachers are amazing. There is a reason this has been the best school in the state for years. Close Quote

Open Quote Both my children attend Britt David. I feel this is a good school in which you want your children to experience a diverse cultural school setting unlike any other school in the district or state. The parents are extremely involved in their child's academic success. One of the main reasons the school scored so well in the state ranking ( #1 in the state for last 5 years )was do to their high standards. If a child falls below certain standard or has ANY behavior issues, they are sent packing back to their feeder school.
The main issue I have (and others) with Britt David Magnet Academy is that they claim that they are a computer magnet school. Yet several other schools throughout the district implement far more technology into there curriculum. The only time my children used technology at the school was for assessment (test and quiz)purposes. The teachers really work hard but they are constantly trying to milk money out of the kids even though the parents are required to pay PTA,technology fees along with classroom supplies. Children whose parents who do not provide EXRTA money for certain events (ex. field day) are excluded from activities. This puts a lot of pressure on parents living under a restricted budget.
I also feel the teachers are teaching for the CRTC and in the process a lot of creative learning is lost. I will be sending my kids to another school which puts less emphasis on the CRTC and more on creativity. There are several other good elementary schools in the district which offer an excellent education if not more rewarding. Close Quote

Open Quote My daughter just completed 5th grade and is fully prepared for middle school. Britt David provides a safe, caring environment with a rigorous curriculum. However, parents need to know that there is a waiting list that children can be placed on - even as infants - and unless you do so early, you may not even get a chance to test in. Highly recommended school. Close Quote

Open Quote I have two children attending Britt David and we are blessed to be a part of this great school! My second grader is reading on a 5th grade level and keeps straight A's while my first grader now reads on a third grade level and also has straight A's. They are learning so much and you will not see behavior problems at this school. I love the cultural diversity and everyone has been nothing but friendly to us. I have made many friends from many different backgrounds, as have my children. I feel as if I am involved with a private school. Excellent teachers and caring, involved principal. Close Quote

Open Quote The school has reputation for snobbery and elitism that I found well founded when my child attended. Minorities are treated as quotas to be filled as best as possible. Emphasis was on how to take a test to achieve a high score so the school could attract more high income parents to donate to the school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
