The school is part of the Muscogee County School District, which is ranked 155 out of 203 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger. Unfortunately, Double Churches Middle School has consistently been ranked in the bottom half of Georgia middle schools, with a 1-star rating as well.

Academically, Double Churches Middle School significantly underperforms compared to the Muscogee County and Georgia state averages on the Milestones Assessments. In 2023-2024, the school's proficiency rates were much lower than the county and state in English Language Arts (22.6% vs. 27.7% and 41.6%), Mathematics (7.9% vs. 15.6% and 34.7%), and Science (9.3% vs. 16.9% and 25.6%). Additionally, the school has an extremely high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 96.53% to 96.61% over the past 3 years, which is much higher than the county and state averages.

When comparing Double Churches Middle School to nearby middle schools in the Muscogee County district, it is clear that the school is significantly underperforming. For example, Aaron Cohn Middle School, just 8.73 miles away, has consistently outperformed Double Churches Middle School on the Milestones Assessments, with proficiency rates that are 20-30 percentage points higher in many subject areas. While Double Churches Middle School has a relatively low student-teacher ratio, the higher per-student spending suggests that there may be opportunities to implement targeted interventions and support programs to address the specific needs of the student population and improve academic outcomes.

Open Quote Since they changed almost the entire administration staff this year, transferred in hundreds of new students from other school zones and made DCMS a title one school. Very disappointed. My children say the new principal is discriminatory, and stands in the halls screaming at kids when others are trying to get his help. Classrooms are overfilled. already were before they made this change, and ser up an entire hall for special needs children yet say they are trying to teach them to assimilate in with other students, they dont have classes with them, lunches with then and are never in the hall with them. Most of the Office staff acts like they are doing you a favor by being there, look annoyed when you need something. Daughter got in school suspension for walking around some other students and an orange cone when those students had dropped something and were picking it up. Changed my sons schedule second half of year without even telling him and no one reached out to me when he hadnt attended the new class for 2 months, and the old class never told him he wasnt on his roster either. Open Quote Mr. Fitts is a wonderful principal. My son had great, supportive and encouraging teachers. This school has been under-ranked for a long time, but it is a hidden gem. Mr. Fitts and the teachers know my student (and me) by name and are friendly, hard working, and willing to help in any capacity to ensure these kids find success. My son blossomed here and I'm looking forward to my younger son starting Dbl Churches this fall. You'll hear nothing but praise from me. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
