The school has consistently outperformed the Vallivue School District and the state of Idaho in various ISAT test scores, particularly in English Language Arts. However, its statewide ranking and SchoolDigger rating have fluctuated over the years, ranging from a high of 55th out of 188 Idaho elementary schools (4 stars) in 2021-2022 to a low of 136th out of 166 (1 star) in 2020-2021. The school's current ranking is 154th out of 301 (2 stars) for the 2023-2024 school year.

However, the school's performance for female students has been relatively lower, ranking 50th out of 69 (1 star) in the same year. The school also faces challenges with high chronic absenteeism, a growing student-teacher ratio, and a significant population of students from low-income families. When compared to other schools in the Vallivue School District and the neighboring Nampa School District, Central Canyon generally outperforms its peers in academic measures, particularly in English Language Arts, but some nearby schools, such as Desert Springs Elementary and Lakevue Elementary, have shown stronger performance in certain subject areas and grade levels.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I have loved our boys' teachers and the administration at Central Canyon Elementary. I'd like to give you two examples of why this school has been above average in my mind.
Last year my youngest was really struggling. He hated school because he felt unsuccessful. Not only did his teacher keep us posted about his academic struggles (he was testing at the bottom of the class), but she arranged additional meetings with us and spent small group time with him and a few other classmates during lunch in a "reading club". He is now reading above his grade level, but more than that, he LIKES to read! (A huge change.)
Secondly, my sons have each had experiences with bullying. Bullying is not tolerated at Central Canyon and we were very pleased with how promptly and thoroughly the administration dealt with the children who picked on our kids and supported our boys.
They really care at Central and it shows. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
