Shadow Butte Elementary School

Summary:

Shadow Butte Elementary School is a public elementary school in Emmett, Idaho, serving 463 students in grades K-5. The school is part of the Emmett Independent District, which is ranked 47 out of 77 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating.

While Shadow Butte Elementary has some areas of concern, including relatively high chronic absenteeism rates (ranging from 12.6% to 28.0%) and lower-than-average test scores (only 33.6% proficient or better in ISAT/Math and 37% in ISAT/English Language Arts), the school also has some interesting findings. Its student population is predominantly white (81.43%), which is higher than nearby schools like Butte View School (78.54% white) and Kenneth J Carberry Elementary (78.94% white). Additionally, Shadow Butte's statewide ranking has fluctuated over the years, ranging from 0 stars to 3 stars out of 5, and in the most recent school year, it ranked 240 out of 301 Idaho elementary schools with a 1-star rating.

When compared to other nearby schools, Shadow Butte Elementary generally performs worse on key metrics like test scores and chronic absenteeism. For example, Butte View School and Kenneth J Carberry Elementary both had higher ISAT/Math and ISAT/English Language Arts proficiency rates than Shadow Butte Elementary in 2023-2024. To address these challenges, the school and Emmett Independent District may need to focus on strategies to improve attendance and academic performance.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My son started below Grade average when he started kindergarten. They have a Secondary class for kids behind so he ended up going full time. The time it hit January he was caught up and where he was suppose to be at for his grade level. Close Quote

Open Quote I love this school. My kids had friends, they were challenged but not overwhelmed, and they had the best teacher ever. She was a fresh new face and all the kids seemed to really love learning from her. The building it's self felt open and easy to navigate as well. Though they used Common Core which is extra confusing for kids (and adults) they did not use ONLY Common Core but a mixture of lessons to make it easier for students to understand the concepts and find a method for the individual to learn best at. The teachers I met as well as the principal were willing to talk out any issues you may have with real interest in what is best for you and your family. They acknowledge that you are in charge of your kids instead of just expecting you to do what they want no questions asked. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
