Kennedy Elementary School

Summary:

Kennedy Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Rexburg, Idaho, serving grades K-4 with a student population of 351. It is part of the Madison School District, which is ranked 58 out of 77 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

While Kennedy Elementary consistently outperforms the Madison District and the state of Idaho in math proficiency, with 48.1% of students proficient or better in 2023-2024 compared to 37.6% for the district and 42.2% for the state, the school lags behind the district and state in English Language Arts (ELA) proficiency, with only 33.8% of students proficient or better in 2023-2024 compared to 38.3% for the district and 53.3% for the state. The school also has a higher percentage of Hispanic students (13.39%) compared to nearby schools like Hibbard Elementary and Adams Elementary, which range from 6.56% to 13.96%. Additionally, Kennedy Elementary has a relatively high chronic absenteeism rate of 20.2% in 2022-2023, which is higher than the nearby schools, which range from 10.9% to 24.9%.

The high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch at Kennedy Elementary School (50.71% in 2022-2023) suggests that the school serves a relatively disadvantaged population, which may contribute to the lower academic performance compared to nearby schools. This is further evidenced by the school's significant decline in its statewide ranking, dropping from a high of 1st out of 357 Idaho elementary schools in 2012-2013 to 218th out of 301 in 2023-2024. Addressing attendance issues and the socioeconomic factors impacting the school could be potential areas of focus for Kennedy Elementary to improve its overall performance.

Open Quote Most of the workers involved with education do not meet the individual needs of each child. They only do the minimum and do not go above and beyond for your child nor do they have the interest of improving in any important aspect. The special educational program is disappointing and do not have any helpful resources to assist the students' needs. I expressed my concerns to the members and I was shunned for being outspoken and my feedback was not considered. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
