Plano High School

Summary:

Plano High School is a public high school located in Plano, Illinois, serving grades 9-12 with a total enrollment of 791 students. The school is part of the Plano CUSD 88 district and has seen fluctuations in its statewide ranking over the past several years, ranging from 330 out of 697 Illinois high schools in the 2023-2024 school year (rated 3 out of 5 stars) to as low as 534 out of 699 in the 2021-2022 school year (rated 1 out of 5 stars).

Plano High School has maintained a relatively high four-year graduation rate, ranging from 91.1% in 2020-2021 to 93.6% in 2019-2020, which is higher than the state average. However, the school's test scores, particularly in SAT Mathematics and English Language Arts, have been consistently lower than the state averages. For example, in 2023-2024, only 11.9% of 11th-grade students were proficient or better in SAT Mathematics, compared to the state average of 26.1%. Additionally, Plano High School has seen a concerning increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 10.8% in 2019-2020 to 24.1% in 2023-2024, which is significantly higher than the state average.

Compared to nearby high schools, Plano High School generally performs better than Newark Community High School but lags behind Somonauk High School and Hinckley-Big Rock High School in terms of statewide rankings and academic performance. Plano High School also has a relatively high percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, with 56.38% of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch in the 2022-2023 school year, which may contribute to the school's lower academic performance and higher chronic absenteeism rates.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My son has attended 4 schools, Plano High School being the 4th one. They are the most unprofessional school I have dealt with to date. They lack the knowledge of how to effectively communicate with families and seem to care more about their school than the welfare of the children. For such a small school, they do a very poor job of representing a welcoming community spirit. Absolute terrible school! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
