Hickman County High School consistently performs well academically, ranking among the top 32-26 high schools in Kentucky over the past few years. The school's test scores are significantly higher than the state averages across various subjects and grade levels, including ACT English (69% vs. 44%), ACT Mathematics (49% vs. 30%), and KSA Reading (64% for 7th grade vs. 47% statewide). The school also has an impressive 95.3% four-year graduation rate, which is well above the state average. Additionally, Hickman County High School excels in the performance of specific student groups, ranking among the top 12-24 high schools in Kentucky for female students and the top 25-39 high schools for white students and low socioeconomic status students.

While Hickman County High School outperforms the nearby Graves County High School and Fulton County High School in many academic metrics, the nearby Gateway Academy High School, a virtual public school, has significantly lower performance and graduation rates. This highlights the importance of considering the unique characteristics and challenges of different school models when making comparisons. While Hickman County High School performs well overall, there are a few areas where the school could focus on improvement, such as the relatively lower proficiency rates in mathematics and science compared to other subject areas.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote hickman county is extremely racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, and sexist. the discrimination here is INSANE. they talk about how you can't be on your phones because they want you to socialize yet middle school and high school can't talk to eachother??? doesn't even make sense. and not to mention girls can't wear leggings. that is predatory and pedophilic, instead of making girls cover up tell the male teachers to quit being perverts. this school is awful, they don't care about mental issues or certain triggers or if you are neurodivergent and learn differently. the teachers are rude and ignorant. hickman county is an awful school. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
