Bristow Elementary

Summary:

Bristow Elementary is a public elementary school located in Bowling Green, Kentucky, serving grades PK-6 with a total enrollment of 651 students. The school is part of the Warren County School District, which is ranked 75 out of 159 districts in Kentucky and is rated 3 stars out of 5 by SchoolDigger.

Bristow Elementary has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Kentucky elementary schools over the past decade, with its highest ranking being 389 out of 517 schools in the 2020-2021 school year. The school has received a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger for most of this period, indicating below-average performance compared to other schools in the state. Bristow's proficiency rates in mathematics, reading, science, and other subjects are consistently lower than the Warren County and Kentucky state averages across all grade levels. The school's performance is particularly concerning in mathematics, where proficiency rates have ranged from 23.2% to 41% over the past few years, significantly below the district and state averages.

While Bristow Elementary performs relatively well for African American and Hispanic students, ranking in the top 25-38 schools in the state for these subgroups in recent years, the school struggles with the performance of female, male, white, and low socioeconomic status students, ranking in the bottom half or bottom third of Kentucky schools for these subgroups. The school's high percentage of economically disadvantaged students, ranging from 65.12% to 70.81% over the past three school years, may be a significant factor contributing to the school's academic challenges. Nearby schools, such as Briarwood Elementary and Cumberland Trace Elementary, both in the Warren County district, consistently outperform Bristow in academic proficiency rates across multiple subjects and grade levels.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The staff at Bristow are true professionals. I'm sorry they have to deal with a crazy mother who had managed to get on their site-base counsell. Her husband got let go as a teacher for that school, now she is purposely causing chaos in efforts to hurt everyone. Parents of that school need to replace her on that counsell. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
